Dust Suppression

DustWeb.jpg

Dust is becoming more of a major issue on construction and development sites.
Watering of dust prone surfaces has long been a simple method of reducing airborne dust particles but due to necessary frequencies of application, it can be also be expensive, time consuming and labour intensive.

As an alternative a variety of soil stabilising and dust suppressants are available from Erosion Control Co Ltd.

Depending on the specific job and the requirement of the customer most dust control services are customised accordingly.  Questions need to be asked such as: “how long will protection be required – will the site have traffic – soil type – and expected weather patterns”.

In the most basic form we can supply simple compounds that can be added to your conventual water cart that will significantly reduce the frequency of applications by up to 50%

Then we advance to more complicated compounds
Products that we often use include:
Acrylics                      Polyvinyl acetate
Co Polymer                Poly vinyl acrylic copolymer
PAM                           Polyacrylamide
We use these compounds with various application techniques to enhance the attributes of the tackifiers

The Acrylics, Co Polymers and Pams will give good results and we can vary the dust prevention time by altering the volume of active ingredients that we apply. These products act as a liquid soil stabiliser which prevents wind and water erosion by penetrating into the soil structure and bonding the soil particles together to minimise erosion potential.  They form a film upon drying that allows water and air to penetrate, yet continues to bond the soil particles together.

For longer term dust suppression we recommend the use of Resins which are designed not only for long term dust suppression but they can also be used on sites that will have to withstand traffic movements.

Hay Mulching can also be an dust suppression. This is usually used in conjunction with seed and fert. It may be necessary to crimp the straw in place if there is a chance of high wind.
